Dr. Bayo Curry-Winchell

Host of the Preventing Type 2 Diabetes Podcast - Beyond Clinical Walls

I'm Dr. Bayo Curry-Winchell, but most people call me Dr. Bayo. I'm the Medical Director of Urgent Care Clinics at Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center in Reno, NV. Beyond my clinical role, I'm the visionary founder of Beyond Clinical Walls, a dynamic social media and podcast platform dedicated to sharing accurate and credible health information in entertaining and educational short-form content. My mission as a social media influencer is to provide accessible health information to diverse audiences, increasing health literacy and raising awareness for inequalities in healthcare.

My commitment to the community is evident through my diverse roles and active involvement in public health initiatives. I serve as an assistant medical examiner at Washoe County Child Protective Services, ensuring the welfare of vulnerable children, and I've held the position of President at the Washoe County Medical Society. Additionally, I co-chair the Diversity Equity Inclusion and Belonging Committee for the Nevada State Medical Association and advocate on behalf of patients for Nevada's Patient Protection Commission.

During the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, I assumed the pivotal role of Medical Director for the Washoe County Sexual Assault Response Team, providing essential support to survivors. My dedication extended further as I contributed my expertise to the Reno Mayor's Task Force and the Governor's Medical Advisory Team for Nevada, showcasing my unwavering commitment to public health.

My dedication and accomplishments have been recognized through numerous prestigious awards. I was honored as one of Sierra Nevada's Top 20 Most Powerful Women in 2019 and received the PBS Reno Spotlight Extraordinary Neighbor award in 2020. In 2021, I was presented with the Young Physician Award by the Washoe County Medical Society and received the Community Service Award from the same society. Most notably, I was recognized as a Healthcare Hero by Nevada Business Magazine in 2022. Becker's Hospital Review has featured me for two consecutive years, recognizing me as one of the 75 Black healthcare leaders to watch.

As an accomplished public speaker and event host, I've served as a keynote speaker at various events and have had the privilege of presenting twice at TEDx. In addition, I actively engage in national media interviews and consistently contribute to multiple publications.
