Dr. Thomas Obisesan

Professor of Medicine and Geriatrics - Howard University

Dr. Obisesan was trained in Geriatrics Medicine and Cognitive Disorders at George Washington University, where he concurrently completed a Master’s Degree in Public Health. Currently, he is a Professor of Medicine, the Associate Vice President for Regulatory Research Compliance, and a Designated Institutional Official (IO) at Howard University. Dr. Obisesan’s research focuses on Alzheimer’s disease. As a regionally and internationally recognized leader in AD research, Dr. Obisesan serves on the Steering Committee for the Alzheimer’s Therapeutic Research Institute (ATRI), Alzheimer’s Clinical Trial Consortium (ACTC), the Alzheimer’s Disease Neuroimaging Initiatives, Eisai Traditional Approval Label Advisory Board, Eisai Alzheimer’s Disease Blood-Based Advisory Board, Genentech Alzheimer’s Disease Diversity Consortium Member, Eli Lilly Alzheimer’s Disease Treatment Advisory Board. Previously, he served as the Howard University Associate Director for the General Clinical Research Center (GCRC), as Director of the Howard University Clinical Research Unit (CRU) under the Center for Clinical Translational Science Award (CTSA), and on the Alzheimer’s Disease Cooperative Study (ADCS) Steering Committee. He was also a Member of the ASPREE Publications, Presentations, and Ancillary Studies Committee. Currently, Dr. Obisesan probes the physiologic, metabolic, and molecular pathways mediating the effects of fitness adaptation on neurodegeneration and molecular genetics to investigate the downstream effects of CVD risks on Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Dr. Obisesan was a recipient of several NIH grant awards, previously sat on several NIH study sections, served as a reviewer for several journals, is currently an editor for Frontiers In Aging Neuroscience, and twice received the Alzheimer’s Association of the National Capital Area recognition awards.
